January 10, 2005 Letter to Parents of 5th and 6th GradersIt's that great time of the year when we need to begin our science fair projects! All 5th and 6th graders will be required to submit a science fair project, which uses the scientific method to solve a problem. Science projects are primarily independent study assignments involving experiments on a topic of individual interest. The educational benefits to the student who completes a project are numerous and include developing skills in writing, creative thinking, and problem solving. We realize that there will be students who have a very difficult time with this and their projects should reflect this. Keep it simple! The scientific process is more important that the actual project idea. There are a few books at the bookstore and library that help with getting ideas. This packet highlights the basic guidelines for submitting a science fair project and some important dates. The students will compete in the Trident Academy Science Fair and the seven winners will compete in the SCISA Science Fair in April. Please take the time to read this information carefully.
