About the Presenter
 
Joanie Gerken has worked in the field of learning disabilities for over 30 years, teachiing math and reading to students with learning disabilities, as well as teaching graduate level courses and seminars on multisensory teaching strategies and the Orton-Gillingham approach.  She is a fellow in the Orton-Gillingham Academy and taught at Trident Academy in Mount Pleasant for thirty-five years prior to becoming a private educational consultant. She is a teaching fellow with the Rankin Institute at the Fletcher School in Charlotte, NC and the Swift School in Atlanta, GA.  She did her undergraduate studies at Clemson University, home of the Fighting Tigers! She received her Masters in Special Education from the Universtiy of Charleston.  She has four beautiful children, all of whom have survived learning differences, and now have jobs and families of their own!
