2009 SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT 9th-12th Grades

Please look over the brochure of the South Carolina Young Adult Book Award nominees. Each upper school student is required to read 2 books from the list. All students who read a third selection before January of 2010 are eligible to vote for their favorite nominee. We hope to have 100% upper school participation! Summer reading assignments are due Friday, September 4.

After completing the reading assignment, all students must choose from one of the following:

A. Create a poster advertising one of your books. It must be standard poster size, and must have a ½ page typed, summary of the book taped to the back.

B. Write a book report about one of your books. It should include a ½ page typed summary of the book along with:

9th grade – 5 of the following
10th grade – 6 of the following
11th grade – 7 of the following
12th grade – 8 of the following

1. Who was your favorite character and why?

2. What would be a better ending for the book?

3. What is your favorite part and why?

4. What was your least favorite part and why?

5. How did the book relate to your life?

6. Did the book remind you of another book you have read, or movie you have seen? What was it and why?

7. If you were making the book in to a movie, who would you cast as the main characters and why?

8. What are some examples of foreshadowing?

9. To whom would you recommend this book and why?

10. Would you like to read another book by this author? Tell why or why not.
